Projected Digital Image (PDI) and Print Competition Software for Camera Clubs

History

In 2005  Kidlington Camera Club  obtained a Lottery "Awards for All" grant to purchase a digital projector and laptop. There was no suitable software available at that time to create and present Projected Digital Image (PDI) competitions so MagicLantern was born. After successful tests during the 2005/2006 season the program was adopted for all projected digital image competitions from the 2006/2007 season. Since then the program has evolved with experience and use.

I am very much indebted to the  members of Kidlington Camera Club for their help and suggestions during the development of these programs , especially Roger Thompson, who was competition secretary of the club for many years,

Overview

MagicLantern allows camera clubs or photographic societies to create and run Projected Digital Image (PDI) competitions. It can also be used to record the scoring and placing with Print competitions.

There is an associated program available; MLSlide, which can be used by club members or other clubs to allow them to compile their competition entries. This file can then be imported into the competition database. MLSlide is available for both Windows and Macintosh operating systems.

Digital Images can be added to or deleted from the project, the image title and author details can be entered and edited. A submission created in MLSlide can be imported into the MagicLantern project.

MagicLantern initially runs in an 'Evaluation' mode when installed. To remove the Evaluation message and to enable all the features request an Activation code for your club from the Contact page. An activation code is supplied free to any camera club or photographic society who requests one.
